Any patient diagnosed with breast cancer, or suspected breast malignancy following biopsy, should be assessed by a specialist surgeon. Dr George will review your pathology, imaging, and individual circumstances to discuss all appropriate surgical options. Patients considering prophylactic surgery due to genetic risk factors (such as BRCA mutations) are also welcome for consultation

Breast-conserving surgery involves removal of the tumour and a margin of surrounding healthy tissue, preserving the remainder of the breast. Mastectomy involves removal of the entire breast. Sentinel node biopsy or axillary clearance may be performed simultaneously to assess lymph node involvement. Procedures are performed under general anaesthesia in a hospital setting. Reconstruction options are discussed at consultation

Pre-operative: Multidisciplinary assessment including oncology, radiology, and pathology review prior to surgery. Pre-admission bloods and imaging as directed. Arrange support for recovery at home. Post-operative: Drains may be present for several days. Arm exercises are important to maintain range of motion. Follow oncology team instructions for adjuvant therapy (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy). Attend all follow-up appointments diligently. Psychosocial support is available and encouraged
