IPL — INTENSE PULSED LIGHT THERAPY

IPL is best suited to lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick I–III) with concerns such as: -Sun spots -Sun damage -Rosacea -Freckles -Mild redness -Uneven skin tone It is not suitable for active tans or very dark skin tones. A comprehensive skin consultation is required to confirm your suitability.

IPL delivers controlled pulses of broad spectrum light into the skin. This light energy is selectively absorbed by targeted structures such as melanin (pigment) or haemoglobin (in blood vessels), generating a controlled thermal response beneath the skin’s surface. What happens during treatment: -A cooling gel may be applied to the treatment area -The IPL device is passed across the skin, delivering pulses of light You may feel a warm, snapping sensation with each pulse -The targeted pigment or vessels absorb the light energy, triggering your skin’s natural healing response -Most sessions take between 20 to 40 minutes depending on the treatment area Results develop gradually. Pigmented areas typically darken before flaking away over the following days, while redness, rosacea and vascular concerns fade progressively. A course of treatments, spaced several weeks apart, is generally recommended for optimal results.

Before Your Treatment -Avoid sun exposure and self tanning products for at least 2 to 4 weeks prior -Avoid waxing, plucking or chemical peels in the treatment area for 1 to 2 weeks prior -Inform your practitioner of any medications, skin conditions or recent sun exposure After your treatment, -Strict sun protection (SPF50+) is essential following treatment -Avoid direct sun exposure on the treated area for several weeks -Pigmented spots may appear darker before flaking away over 7 to 10 days. Do not pick or exfoliate these areas -Avoid hot showers, saunas and strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours Use gentle, fragrance free skincare while the skin settles Your practitioner will provide a full personalised aftercare plan at your appointment.
